Compare salon closeout periods without misreading trends
Compare finalized periods using their actual date ranges, then investigate changes before judging salon or technician performance.
A busy holiday week and a three-day period are not equivalent samples. NailWage’s trend and comparison views make changes in finalized records easier to see, but an owner still needs the working calendar and source figures to interpret an upward or downward movement.
What to prepare
Choose at least two finalized periods with reliable inputs. Check their start and end dates, days open and participating technicians. If one period has missing rows or a different tip-recording method, resolve that mismatch before treating the comparison as meaningful.
How to use it
- Sign in and open the salon dashboard or a closeout detail page.
- Read the dates attached to totals and chart points rather than assuming every point is a full week.
- Expand the period comparison to inspect the categories that changed.
- For a technician with lower figures, check shifts, time off and service mix before discussing performance.
An example to check
Illustrative example: Lan records $1,800 over six days, then $1,200 over four days. Total sales fall, but this example still averages $300 per day. Looking only at the period total hides two days away from work.
Next step
Start with two genuinely comparable periods. Use the difference to form a specific operational question, rather than treating the chart as the answer.
