Document your salon pay policy before closeout

Write down how service pay, tips and fees are handled so the owner and technician can review the same version.

A “60/40 split” does not explain where tips appear, when fees are applied or how advances are recorded. Pay Policies gives the owner a place to document the salon’s stated approach. The owner supplies and reviews the wording; NailWage is not drafting a legal agreement.

What to prepare

Gather the current pay settings and the questions technicians commonly ask. Check that the wording matches actual calculations. Have a qualified professional review provisions about rights or deductions when appropriate.

How to use it

  • Explore the public sample to see the format.
  • Create a draft inside the salon workspace and review each section.
  • Export or publish the reviewed version for the technician to receive.
  • Explain uncertainties and use a new version for a change rather than rewriting old evidence.

An example to check

For example, documenting that tips are included with the check tells both parties where to look on the summary. Writing a rule down does not establish that it is permissible in every situation.

Next step

Start with one recurring question and check whether your policy answers it clearly enough for both people.
